You Will No Longer Sleep Properly

One of the most common complaints from patients after having ETS surgery is insomnia. Insomnia, in simple terms, is difficulty in falling and staying asleep. Those with this condition usually wake after only a couple of hours of going to bed and often cannot get back to sleep for several hours.
This is caused by a permanent disruption to the body's circadian rhythm due to, you guessed it, damage to the sympathetic chain, causing sufferers to not feel well rested after a night's sleep, daytime tiredness, irritability, depression or anxiety, difficulty paying attention, focusing on tasks as well as remembering.
This usually happens from the day of surgery and sleeping tablets are now something that becomes a part of daily life for many that undergo ETS. But for those that believe they may have got off scot-free and don't yet suffer from this condition, insomnia can also develop after several years which often makes it difficult to link back to your ETS surgery, although this is almost always the direct cause.
