Unfortunately, there may still be extreme circumstances when going ahead with ETS surgery is the only available option left because it really does stop your sweaty hands. But I must highly stress that surgery should only be the absolute, very last resort after ALL other possible remedies have been exhausted. But it's still a huge gamble. You may think your life is unbearable now, but believe me, it can certainly get a hell of a lot worse.
So I have compiled a list of questions for you to take with you to discuss with your surgeon before you make that final decision. You won't need to ask all of them. Some may be more relevant to you than others. But if answered truthfully, they will certainly help give you a much greater understanding of the surgery and to help you make a more qualified decision.
1. How many ETS surgeries have you carried out identical to the procedure you are recommending for me?
2. Do you cut or clamp?
3. At what level would I be cut?
4. Why do you prefer this method?
5. Is there anything you do differently from other surgeons to get better results?
6. If clamped, are you able to remove the clamps if requested after my surgery?
7. How long after my request can I be booked in to get the clamps removed?
8. Have you had a request to remove the clamps in the past?
9. Are you the surgeon who will be removing the clamps?
10. How successful was the clamp removal at eliminating the side effects caused by the surgery?
11. How do you keep up to date with advancements or the results from other surgeons?
12. Do you keep in contact with your patients to record all of the long term side-effects?
13. How long do you keep in contact with them for?
14. Do you charge your patients to come back to see you to keep you updated of their condition?
15. Would you allow one of your family members to have this surgery?
16. What do you regard as a successful outcome?
17. Can I speak to some of your previous ETS patients?
18. Is there a central database where all ETS surgeries from around the world are recorded which document all the side-effects?
19. Do you disclose all of the results of your surgeries and their side-effects to any medical association?
20. What on-going support do you provide after the surgery?
21. Who pays for the on-going medical costs for side-effects that may occur as a result of the surgery?
22. Have you ever been sued for ETS surgery?
23. What was the outcome?
24. Have you ever been sued for any other procedures?
25. What are the side effects?
26. Are there any long term side effects?
27. Do you document or record all the long term side effects? How?
28. Do you keep in regular contact with those that have side-effects?

30. How come you are not telling me about all the hidden side-effects? ie fight/flight response and health problems caused by impairment of autonomous body functions.
31. I heard my heart rate will be reduced by around 10%. Is this true? Why didn't you mention this?

33. What percentage of your patients get Compensatory Sweating?
34. Can you show me a picture of what Compensatory Sweating looks like?
