Vascular Problems

Vasodilation is another bodily function affected by ETS surgery. Vasodilation is the medical term for when blood vessels in your body widen, allowing more blood to flow through them. This occurs naturally in response to low oxygen levels or increases in body temperature. It's purpose is to increase blood flow and oxygen delivery to parts of the body that need it most. This process happens normally in your body without you even realizing it.

Conversely, vasoconstriction of the blood vessels is the constricting of the blood vessels and is also a natural part of your body balancing its systems. Vasoconstriction is needed to keep your body temperature from getting too cold and can also raise blood pressure when necessary.

ETS surgery impairs this important body function and only adds to the excessive sweat and temperature regulation problems suffered by patients.

Excessive Facial Blushing

It is also interesting to note that ETS surgery is also widely performed on patients with excessive facial blushing. Facial blushing is caused by the over-activity of involuntary nerves that control the diameter of the blood vessels beneath the surface of the skin, and when over-stimulated, the vessels colour the skin red.

After realizing the dilation impairment caused by ETS, another opportunity arose to cash in on this lucrative procedure as it was believed this side-effect could now be successfully used as a cure for facial blushing.

As it turns out, the success rate for reducing facial blushing is only around 5% at best, and is only done when accompanied by hand sweating so surgeons can justify having carried out surgery when patients complain that the procedure was unsuccessful.
